Rancho RS999705 MyRIDE Wireless Remote Control VS the RS99701 In-Cab Remote – A Comparison
Rancho shocks (the RS9000 to be specific) were innovative pieces of engineering because they were the first shock to have a manual adjustable valve. This gave the driver 100{5bcf94f82cf8a36c68cc47ffe9901d68a1fd5f59c7fabc3b2930ea6a270efa8e} control of the shock settings, however the valve was physically located on the shock body. This meant that the vehicle would have to be stopped so the driver get out and crawl under the vehicle to manually adjust each shock. Sure, the entire process could be done in under 90 seconds, but it would have to be repeated every time the driver wanted to tune the shocks. This cumbersome task had many drivers leaving their shocks on one setting for all driving conditions which essentially defeated the purpose of having adjustable shocks. The solution to this was an in-cab remote control that allowed adjustment of the shocks while the vehicle was moving.
While this remote control system did do its job, it was bulky and had to be mounted somewhere inside the vehicle. Air hoses needed to be routed from within the cab to the exterior of the vehicle and to each individual shock. This network of air hoses was often the downfall of the entire system because the air lines could become brittle and crack from the elements or vibrate loose from bumpy terrain causing a loss in air pressure and thus a loss in the valve tuning.
With the release of Rancho’s newest line of suspension damping called myRIDE, the RS9000XL shocks and quickLIFT shocks can now be controlled via a wireless RS999705 myRIDE remote control. Unlike its predecessor (the RS99701), the myRIDE remote control system is completely wireless. Rather than mounting a faceplate and air pressure gauges to the vehicle’s dashboard, the myRIDE remote control is a hand-held unit comparable in size to a modern-day cell phone. It can be stored in the glove box or clipped to the sun visor. And rather than analog gauges to display the current shock settings, the myRIDE remote has a digital screen with precise readings. In addition, the RS999705 myRIDE remote provides automatic diagnostics of the system so if it detects that air pressure to any of the shocks has changed, it instantly brings them back to where the driver last set them.
It is not necessary to use the RS999705 remote with the new line of Rancho myRIDE RS9000XL and quickLIFT shocks. They are compatible with the older RS99701 in-cab remote control because, let’s face it, not everybody needs wireless technology when it comes to off-roading. If you’re on a budget or you’re building an off-road rig that doesn’t need the state-of-the-art innovation and the clean installation of the RS999705 myRIDE wireless remote, you can still opt for the RS99701 in-cab remote and use it seamlessly with your RS9000XL or quickLIFT shocks. If you’re the type that loves gadgets and new innovation in your vehicle or you simply want to avoid clutter, then the RS999705 myRIDE wireless remote is definitely for you.
